I created Find This Code out of sheer frustration. Like most people, I've stared at a glowing check engine light, plugged in a cheap OBD-II scanner, and been handed a cryptic code like "P0420" with no context.

When you try to search for these codes online, you usually run into two problems:

• Sites written by mechanics for mechanics, filled with technical jargon that the average driver doesn't understand.
• Spammy websites full of auto-generated content that don't actually tell you what the code means or how to fix it safely.

I wanted a straightforward, no-nonsense resource. Something that feels like a knowledgeable friend explaining things to you in plain English. That's what this site is.

Our Mission

We aim to make confusing diagnostic codes accessible so you can decide what to do next. Whether that means tightening a gas cap yourself or knowing enough to not get ripped off when you take your car to the shop.

We're starting with car error codes, but we plan to expand to appliances, HVAC equipment, and everyday tech. Because the world is full of confusing blinking lights, and we all deserve clear answers.

How We Create These Guides

Every code guide on this site is written with the same process:

1. We start with the OBD-II standard and technical documentation — the standard definitions of each code, what sensor circuit or system it monitors, and what conditions trigger the fault.
2. We cross-reference real-world repair data — common patterns from actual vehicle diagnostics, including which fixes are most frequently successful for each code across different makes and models.
3. We write for the driver, not the mechanic — every guide is reviewed specifically to remove jargon, explain terms when they're necessary, and give you the kind of information that helps you have an informed conversation with a shop.
4. We include a "before you replace parts" section — because parts-swapping without diagnosis is one of the most expensive mistakes car owners make. Each guide includes code-specific advice on what to verify before spending money.
